Cookie Policy

Last updated 22 August 2026

1. What this policy covers

1.1 “Cookies” here means cookies and similar technologies that store information on your device, including browser local storage and IndexedDB, which is most of what AskMe actually uses.

1.2 This policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes everything we hold about you, and our Terms of Service.

2. What we store on your device, and why

2.1 Essential, always on

These are required for AskMe to work at all, so they do not need consent and cannot be switched off:

WhatWhy
Sign-in session (Firebase Authentication, stored in IndexedDB)Keeps you signed in between visits
Preferences (local storage)Your theme, your cookie choice, the tab you were on, your age-gate answer
Offline caches (local storage)The deck catalogue, your decks and swipes awaiting sync, so the app works offline and starts quickly

2.1.1 Signing out, or clearing your browser’s site data, removes them.

2.2 Advertising, only with your consent

2.2.1 No advertising cookies exist today: no ad network is connected to AskMe.

2.2.2 When ads launch, advertising cookies would decide only whether ads are personalised, and would be set solely if you consented. Declining does not remove ads; the “Remove ads” purchase does.

2.2.3 Users under 18 will not be shown personalised advertising in any case.

2.3 Analytics, none

2.3.1 AskMe contains no analytics, crash or tracking technology of any kind, and therefore sets nothing on your device for those purposes.

3. Third parties

3.1 The web version loads fonts and rendering code from Google servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google when the page loads; this is content delivery, not a cookie.

3.2 Signing in with Apple or Google involves their own sites, which operate under their own cookie policies.

4. Your choices

4.1 In the app: “Cookies” in the footer re-opens the consent choice at any time, withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, deliberately.

4.2 In your browser: you can clear or block site data entirely; AskMe will still work, though you will be signed out and lose local preferences.

4.3 Dismissing the consent card without choosing is not treated as consent, it simply asks again next time.

5. Changes

5.1 If what we store changes, in particular when an advertising network launches, this policy changes first, with a new date at the top.

6. Contact

6.1 The Contact page in the app, or the contact points on the privacy policy.
